addresses the needs of students and the concerns of parents. One or more adults accompany a small group of student who pick up other students along a planned route, similar to the traditional school bus. They walk as a group on their commute to and from school. Adults can take turns chauffeuring the students by having an assigned day of duty. Children can be picked up at their home or a “staging areas” where they “catch the bus.” Forming a walking school bus is a great way to participate in International Walk to School Day. A Walking School Bus will be leaving from the following locations. Meet us at the intersection at 8am or the walking bus will “pick you up on the way”. Five Reasons to Start a Walking School Bus with Your Neighbors: 2. Safety Children who walk to school on a walking bus are part of a large and visible group supervised by adults and seen safely into school. This reassures parents who are concerned about their children walking on their own. 3. Road Sense The walking bus helps children learn pedestrian skills so that when they begin to walk on their own they are better equipped to deal with traffic. 4. Socializing The journey to school gives children a chance to talk and make new friends, when they've arrived at school they've done their chatting and are more ready to learn.Every journey made on foot helps reduce the amount of traffic around schools, which will help reduce air pollution and improve our local environment for everyone. |
