Spring Enrichment Series Offers Line Dancing Lessons for Older Adults The Jackson County Department on Aging is providing “Get in Line” line dancing lessons to adults aged 60 and older, between April 11 and June 6, 2007.  This fun and spirited class will take you step by step through some of the more popular line dances.  Participants can expect to learn at least one new routine each week!  Classes will be held Wednesdays at the Crouch Senior Center, 1715 Lansing Ave. in Jackson, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, on the Garden Level in Room 005.  There is a suggested donation of $1.00 per class.  To come and have a stomping good time, please call Julie Weisbrod, Health Promotion Specialist, at 768-2149.


 

Spring Enrichment Series to Offer Tai Chi Courses for Older Adults

The Jackson County Department on Aging is providing “Tai Chi from the Arthritis Foundation” courses to all adults, age 60 and older, between Monday, April 9 and Wednesday, June 6, 2007.  This Sun-style form of Tai Chi is an internal martial art consisting of 31 movements.  These slowly-performed, fluid movements help to sustain the range of motion in the joints, tone muscles, improve balance, improve memory, decrease stress, increase breathing capacity, in addition to providing numerous other benefits.  There is a suggested donation of $15.00 per class series.  To register for one of the following courses, please call Julie Weisbrod, Health Promotion Specialist, at 768-2149:

Spring Enrichment Series Offers “Sitting Yoga” Classes for Older Adults 

Certified Instructors from BeFITting Yoga are providing “Sitting Yoga” classes at both the Dept. on Aging’s Crouch and Spring Arbor Senior Centers.  The classes are based on Hatha yoga principles, and with the support of a chair, participants will learn various stretching, toning and movement exercises.  Benefits of this type of yoga include enhanced overall strength, flexibility, mobility, stability and mental clarity, along with increased body alignment, relieved tension and expanded respirations.  Classes will be held Tuesdays, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, between April 10 and June 5, 2007, at the Crouch Senior Center, 1715 Lansing Ave., Jackson, First Floor, Room 106.  On Thursdays, classes will be held at the Spring Arbor Senior Center, 122 Starr St., between April 12 and June 7, 2007, in the sitting area.  The suggested fee is $6.00 per class.  To register, please call Julie Weisbrod, Health Promotion Specialist for the Dept. on Aging, at 768-2149 or visit the Instructor’s website at www.yogajackson.com
