The Fitness
Council of Jackson has been successful in accomplishing these results for a
safer routes to Frost school
Completed a walking assessment of
the surrounding area (up to a 15-minute walk from the school) to assess
physical barriers such as incomplete sidewalks and lack of crossing guards.
Created a map indicating the
preferred routes to school and the location of crossing guards.
Installed two “No Turn on Red”
signs at Kibby Road and West Ave., and at High Street and West Ave. to
increase the safety of children crossing the street.
Installed 12 new zebra crosswalks
at key intersections to increase visibility of where students cross.
Advocated for changes to the
parking lot structure at the August School Board meeting.
Approximately 600 Frost students, parents, dignitaries and volunteers walked
to school on October 6, international Walk to School Day. Immediately
following the walk, a pep assembly was held at the school to celebrate the
event. JPS Athletic Director Russell Davis led the celebration and the
JHS football team demonstrated active ways to get to school.
