What is the Company Bikes Program? Biking is one of the quickest and healthiest ways to travel for trips less than five miles. Often we live farther than five miles from work, but may have meetings or lunch errands within five miles. The Company Bikes program allows you to choose biking for short trips by easily checking out one of three different size bikes for use anytime during the day to ride to meetings or lunch around town. If you live within biking distance you can also reserve a bike to ride home and to work to be a regular smart commuter.

How does it work?

Register to use bikes

*
Simply visit a member of the Wellness Committee to fill out a couple forms, or print and sign from the website. When you complete the forms you will receive a helmet for your personal use with the bikes.

 Check-out Bikes
*
Use the calendar in Customer Services to reserve what time and which bike you need up to a week in advance. You can see if a bike is available last minute as well if you are unable to check one out ahead of time.

*  When you need to use a bike stop by Customer Services to pick up your helmet, bike lock, and key. Sign your name on the Check-out clipboard.

*  Look over the bike and check for any damage. Put a check next to your name on the clipboard if the bike was fine.  If there is any damage note that on the form or report to Customer Services.

 Using the bike

*
We encourage you to always wear a helmet. It is of course first to protect your head, but also a great role model for kids.

*   Always lock the bike up when you reach your destination with the provided lock and key.

 Returning the bike

*
Simply lock the bike to the LifeWays bike racks and return the key and helmet to Customer Services. Record the time the bike was returned and any maintenance needed on the bike.

 General Instructions

*
There is no limit to how often you can use the bike, as long as it is available bike to your heart’s content.

*   Please observe the rules of the road. Trainings will be available periodically if you need some advice.

How do I get started?
Simply fill out the form  & Turn into a Wellness Committee member or to Customer Services. They will fit you for your own helmet to use when biking. Then pick which trips you’ll bike for and follow the above instructions.

Are the bikes regularly maintained? The bikes will have routine maintenance twice a year, but be sure to report any problems to a Wellness Committee member. They will report all problems to the Fitness Council at (517) 990-9798.

When are the bikes available? Where are they stored? Bikes are available for check-out year round. They are stored in the Fitness Room from October 15-April 15 and should be picked up there if you’d like to bike during those times. Bikes are locked to the outdoor bike rack during the summer months and can be picked up there for use.

Who is responsible for lost or damaged bikes? The user must pay for damage that is their fault or if the bike is stolen because it wasn’t locked. The company will replace bikes that are stolen even if locked and pay for damage to bikes that isn’t the user’s fault.
